Projects will often be required to underpin their application with ideas to reduce impacts and regulate outcomes.
Mitigation involves elements that can be undertaken to specifically enhance the project, while reducing negative impacts that may be predicted. This may mean managing additional areas nearby for birds (e.g. to breed or feed), or altering the height or location of turbines to reduce potential collisions. Many techniques are tried and tested while, sometimes, novel approaches are needed.
Monitoring is often required to determine if the predicted impacts actually occur. This allows tracking of accepted impacts for projects as well as providing evidence of actual rather than predicted impact levels.
