On Thursday 26th November Dr Grant Humphries, HiDef Lead Data Scientist, will be publicly launching a new method of measuring seabird flight height. Devised after years of research and development, the method applies software innovation, trigonometry and seabird biology with HiDef video footage to allow the calculation of bird flight heights. This can then be feed into collision risk models to predict impacts of offshore wind developments on seabird populations.
“This is a significant step forward for industry, regulators and conservation groups and will bring greater confidence to data sets being used at a time when we see a new wave of expansion in offshore wind development” said Dr Humphries.
