Naphon recently joined HiDef in August 2022 as a Data Scientist, after studying an integrated Master’s in Statistics at the University of Glasgow. He began university with a wide interest in statistical topics and through his studies has developed his passion for statistical ecology and spatial modelling, through realising the urgency of working on climate issues. This was demonstrated through his dissertation projects which both had an ecological background, the first of which analysed and modelled the growth of rainforest trees in the Danum Valley in Malaysia and the second studied spatial trends of shrubs in the Canadian Arctic, with a focus on shrubification and Arctic greening and browning.
Naphon’s main role at HiDef will be to assist with the inlabru and availability bias projects. Through these projects he hopes to further develop his programming skills and learn new R packages so that he can broaden his statistical knowledge, especially in an ecological setting.
