“Ørsted Hornsea Four Ltd engaged HiDef Aerial Surveying Limited (HiDef) to undertake 24 monthly digital aerial surveys of birds, marine mammals and other marine megafauna for the proposed Hornsea Project Four Offshore Wind Farm (Hornsea Four) between 2016 and 2018. HiDef provided a complete package of services from design, commissioning of flights including flight safety planning, image processing to achieve approximately 93.5% identification to species, provision of geo-referenced data, monthly reports and two annual reports on the surveys. All of these were provided to the highest standards, on schedule and with minimum fuss to ensure that a robust data set could be used in the Environmental Impact Assessment for Hornsea Four.
Subsequently to this, HiDef has provided its support for the project as Hornsea Four moves toward application for consent. HiDef has used its considerable ornithological knowledge, data analysis and modelling prowess to facilitate fine-tuning of the Hornsea Four application. HiDef also used its knowledge of statistical analysis to demonstrate the robustness of its original survey design.
