Kathryn joined HiDef in June 2025 as a Data Scientist, bringing experience from both academia and industry as a statistician. She holds a PhD in Statistics and Operational Research from the STOR-i Centre for Doctoral Training at Lancaster University and her research work focused primarily on developing novel statistical methods for analysing networked data. During her time in academia Kathryn gained experience with a range of statistical techniques, including tools from Bayesian statistics, time series and computational statistics.
Prior to joining HiDef, Kathryn worked in a marine consultancy, where she applied analytical techniques to environmental data. Her projects included modelling marine mammal presence data using Generalized Additive Models (GAMs), conducting distance sampling analyses, and applying collision risk models.
Kathryn is excited to have the opportunity to further develop her technical expertise within the context of environmental data analysis at HiDef.
