Liam joined HiDef in October 2024 as an Ecological Consultant after reading his MSc in Environmental Monitoring, Modelling and Reconstruction at Northumbria University. Liam’s background is primarily finance, having worked in personal financial planning for seven years following his bachelor’s degree. However, he was inspired to change direction in his life and career after living on the Isle of Islay for a year (2022-2023) and taking the opportunity to volunteer with the RSPB and other local conservation charities.
Liam therefore chose to retrain in ecology and chose his MSc at Northumbria partly for its focus on GIS mapping skills. In this regard, Liam used ArcGIS extensively for his MSc thesis, modelling the impact of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) on urban flood risk for an ongoing project in County Durham. He also used generalised linear mixed models to test for any statistically significant relationship between the use of SuDS and breeding bird abundances recorded in the area.
Having successfully completed his MSc, and passing with distinction, Liam has now joined HiDef bringing with him the sense of purpose and enthusiasm engendered by his change in career. His broad range of knowledge, life experience and transferable skills will serve him well in his position as an Ecological Consultant, and he looks forward to building his new career with HiDef.
